Where: Paris, In the Trocadero area which is one of my favourite parts of Paris. The area itself is walking distance from all the ‘tourist’ bits like the Champ Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe and right next to the Trocadero metro station is the Jardins Du Trocadero and Eiffel Tower. However once you come away from the tourist attractions and walk further into the Trocadero neighbourhood you will find yourself being submerged into Parisian culture. This area is a very affluent area of Paris perfect for people watching, a spot of designer clothes shopping and eating out.
Picture bustling parisian cafes with the Eiffel tower in the distance full of stylish Parisian people all sipping on wine in the sunshine (that being that you go in summer). I have been to this part of Paris twice now and each time I completely fall in love with it. For me Paris is about embracing the culture, eating at the places the locals eat and taking in the beauty this city has to offer. This area for me shows Paris off to its best, yes its very glamorous but its also beautiful, the architecture and buildings are stunning the cafes are buzzing and there are hardly any tourists which for me is a bonus.
Where we stayed: At the Radisson Blu Le Dokhans a stunning boutique hotel on Rue Lauriston. This hotel is a former residence from the 18th century and is truly old school Parisian beauty featuring original engravings by Picasso and Matisse. The lift is even a Louis Vuitton Trunk.
This hotel is beautiful there really is no other way to describe it, its location is amazing and you feel like you are going back in time when you enter. I love it, I love the romance and the glamour that the hotel exudes in bucket loads. Our room was fairly small yet beautifully furnished, the whole hotel is small but I didn’t mind that at all.
We stayed there for two nights and had bed and breakfast. The breakfast is a selection of mini pastries and coffee/tea and a juice. The room breakfast is served in is stunning however the breakfast itself is nothing to shout about. I would recommend to anyone staying there don’t get the breakfast and walk down to one of the cafes on the roundabout near the Trocadero this is where the locals go for breakfast. There is one cafe/patisserie which we got an almond croissant to die for there.
Places we ate:
Le Coq- This restaurant was in the trocadero area, right near the metro exit on the roundabout. It does the most amazing steak and fries! We had tuna tartare for starter which was delicious. The steak was honestly one of the best steaks I have ever eaten, everything you would ever want in a dinner.
Cafe Du Trocadero- One of my favourite cafes, I would cone here time and time again just to take in the ambience of the place. Think parisian in every way. The most amazing salad ever, huge portions I had the smoked salmon. This cafe is the perfect parisian hangout with the Eiffel tower in eyeshot and surrounded by Parisians this is the perfect culture spot. Food is delicious too which is a plus!
Ralph Lauren Cafe- full review of this wonderful restaurant can be found here
Renaissance Paris Le Parc Trocadero– This hotel was recommended as being very near our hotel and it has an amazing garden which you can eat dinner in. The garden is very pretty and the food probably on the best tasting all holiday. The dishes were so well thought and full of flavour. Oh and the hotel looked great too if you were looking at planning a trip to Paris, I think on my next trip it would certainly be a contender for a good place to stay.
Laduree for Macaroons- obviously the best place in Paris to get macaroons. Honestly no where beats it. The shop on the Champ Elyees is so beautiful and if you can deal with the queues then its so worth it. I love macaroons more than anything so Laduree is a dream for me.
Bobs juice bar– so there has been a lot of talk of macaroons, steak, wine and more wine. I really let myself enjoy Paris without thinking too much about the healthy food side of things on my trip. It was amazing to be able to just eat whatever and enjoy all the parisian food! However this is The Nutritionista the UK lifestyle blog and we all know I love a green juice, just sometimes with a side of macaroon right? So I decided whilst in Paris I would check out what the healthy foodie scene had to offer.
We only had two days in Paris so time was limited so I decided on Bobs Juice Bar as I had been recommended here on so many occasions it seemed silly not too. On the final day on the way to catch the eurostar we stopped off at Bobs a very small juice bar down a little side street. That saying it was packed with people consuming what looked like a delicious healthy breakfast. I got myself a green smoothie and a vegetarian salad to go. Both of which were delicious! Although it was small Bobs juice bar seemed very popular so if you fancy exploring the healthier side of Paris make sure you pop in here or one of their other locations in Paris for your dose of greens.
Best bits: This weekend trip to Paris with Lucy was literally perfection. I had the best weekend away. Every time I go to Paris I discover more of what this beautiful city has too offer and in turn fall more and more in love with it. It was all perfect but if I was to choose highlights it would be;
- The company in the form of my mega babe side kick Lucy Hitchcock. She is a food blogger who loves food as much as me. The perfect holiday partner in every way. Check out her blog Diamond In The Ashes here
- Paris buildings- my dad being an architect I have always had an interest in buildings and appreciate the beauty in them Paris for me is perfection. I love the houses, the balconies and the little streets. I aim to own a flat in the Trocadero area at some point in my life I can visit for long weekends.
- Food- Ralph Laurens Cafe was the highlight of the trip for me. The best lunch, the best company and the best place to sit and admire the world.
So there you have it a little snapshot into my weekend in Paris which involved plenty of food and wine and a side of green juice. Perfection.
