An Interview With Madeleine Shaw

Madeleine Shaw

Madeleine Shaw

Madeleine Shaw is a qualified nutritional health coach based in London, who has an amazing attitude towards leading a happy, healthy lifestyle. I would describe Madeleine as a star of the nutritional world, she has recently worked with the likes of Millie Mackintosh and has many extremely happy clients to her name (just take a look at her testimonials on her site).

As an avid follower of her website, Instagram (which has the most delicious recipes) and Twitter I was very keen to interview the lovely Madeleine and find out a bit more about her world and share it on The Nutritionista. So yesterday I had the pleasure of being able to ask her a few questions about her everyday life, journey into nutrition and diet and exercise routine. I hope you enjoy what she has to say.

1. How did your journey into health and nutrition come about?

Through my previous dieting ways of eating low fat and what I deemed ‘health foods’ I developed terrible IBS, I lost my periods and I wanted to find a way to restore my health. I started going to this gym in Sydney (where I used to live). The gym expanded and added in a kitchen for which they needed a cook. Having always loved cooking I started to work there whilst I was at University. I fell in love with organic food and the power of nutrition, from then on I knew I wanted a career in this world of wellness.

2. What’s a typical day in the life of Madeleine Shaw?

There is no typical day, today I taught a meditation class, went across town to see a client, did a yoga class. Answered emails, blogged and then saw more clients. I definitely run around London a lot and have lots of meetings, on top of that I make sure I spend a lot of time in my kitchen.

3. Describe what you typically eat in a day

Eggs with smoked salmon is a staple breaky for me, then lunch is usually some form of meat or fish with veggies, I love roast sweet potato. Dinner is either out or I cook, I am a big fan of cauliflower rice, I love to make curry’s with it or whip up a prawn paella.

4. Whats your favourite meal? Do you have any cooking tips?

My favourite meal is slow roast lamb shanks with aubergine and tahini, slow cooking makes meat taste amazing! Try and buy grass fed meat, it has the same amount of omega 3 fatty acids as fish.

5. What are your favourite healthy eating spots in London?

The Good Life Eatery, Boma Green or Granger and Co.

6. You hold monthly supper clubs in London, where did you get this idea from and can you describe the kind of food you serve?

It was a sweeping idea that turned into a regular event. It is always gluten free, organic and super tasty. We use free range chicken, grass fed meat and cook in coconut oil. We serve healthy coconut cocktails and healthy desserts. For me it was all about creating a space for people to enjoy healthy food out and about.

7. Do you have an exercise routine?

I am currently doing my yoga training, so its mainly yoga at the moment really. I love yoga :)

8. Do you go to any exercise classes in London and if so are there any which you would recommend?

I go to Indaba yoga studio in London, its amazing!

9. What do you love most about being based in London?

Living near my family, I lived away from them for years so its nice to be home. Also the choice of food, I love how there are so many healthy spots popping up.

10. Is there anyone who inspires you?

So many people….my yoga teacher Celest, my mum, all my clients and how well they do…and my boyfriend, he has the most amazing attitude to life.

11. Do you have any advice for young career women who want to lead a healthy lifestyle?

Be kind to yourself, take it one step at a time.

Enjoy your food and exercise and don’t put anything in your mouth you don’t enjoy.

Smile everyday.
