The Nutritionitsta goes to Barry’s Bootcamp

Barry’s Bootcamp……I’m struggling to put into words my Barry’s bootcamp experience, I mean my whole body is still aching so much. I’m finding it difficult to lift a finger to type, let alone construct a sentence. I think my body is still in shock!!

So firstly what is Barry’s bootcamp? Well it’s Los Angeles “original boutique bootcamp” which has earns it’s reputation by delivering unforgettable workouts which leave you weirdly addicted and wanting more. The workouts themselves are high intensity, interval training based around shocking your body with a tough combination of cardio and strength exercises. This winning formula has earnt Barry’s a hot client list such as Jessica Alba, Amanda Seyfried, Jake Gyllenhaal and rumour has it even David Beckham has tried his hand at a bit of Barry’s bootcamp.

So lucky for us Londoners Barry’s decided to open over here, so of course I had to go and try it out and share my experience on the nutritionista!! I went along to one of the Nike training sessions held at Barry’s bootcamp, I went with high expectations and I can tell you now Barry’s exceeded these expectations…..by a long way.

The workout itself was held in a room which wouldn’t of looked out of place in a nightclub, obviously minus the running machines and weights. As soon as we got in Sandy our instructor split the class in half- half of us went on the running machines whilst the other half went on the ground. The cardio element is not to be underestimated I have never run that fast on a treadmill…EVER!! I thought I was going to fly off the treadmill and I wasn’t even doing the advanced speed. The combination of inclines, running and sprinting is deadly and is guaranteed to push you out of your comfort zone. The class was split up into 10 minute intervals 10 mins cardio, 10 minutes on the ground doing either squats, lunges, weights so all in all we did 3 sets of cardio and 3 sets of strength exercises and we finished with an abs blast. This workout left me feeling destroyed, I was a hot sweaty mess, but the post workout buzz was amazing I felt on top of the world and well and truly “worked out”.

Again Barry’s isn’t just a workout class, like many other new classes in London is a lifestyle, not only is it a workout class it also sells workout gear, post workout healthy shakes, and healthy food courtesy of The Good Life Eatery. I got to try one of their post workout shakes, which was delicious I chose a peanut butter flavoured one, because I’m obsessed with peanut butter but the options were endless!

Following my class I can really see why Barry’s has earnt the reputation it has! The workouts are so intense, the instructors seriously motivating and everyone who enters the class knows they are there for the workout of their life. If that isn’t motivation enough the nightclub themed lighting and music is enough to get anyone in the mood. So thanks to Nike for holding one of its training sessions there and opening my eyes to the famous Barry’s Bootcamp. My recommendation is get yourself down there….be prepared to sweat and not be able to walk the next day but boy is that addictive! You will be hooked in no time.
