So this evening I went along to my first ever Boom Cycle session, thanks to Nikes #weownthenight training sessions! I have been meaning to try Boom Cycle for a while now, after reading about it in the Sunday Times Style along with a huge amount of other press titles and blogs (there has been so much coverage!). You know me, I have to try all the new ‘it’ classes in London- and of course tell you all about them on The Nutritionista, so once I heard of Boom Cycle I just had to go along and review it on The Nutritionista.
For me spinning has always been a slight love hate relationship I go regularly but it is one of those classes when half way through when I am drenched in sweat I hate myself for signing up and then once its over I feel SO GOOD! I always get such a workout high after a spinning class, but I cant say that I love spinning as that would be lying its more a case of forcing myself to go and feeling great after. So I was expecting the same from Boom Cycle, however it proved me wrong. I mean don’t get me wrong I felt like I was dying half way through and I don’t think I have ever sweated that much in a class before….ever I mean it was gross how sweaty I was, but it showed how hard I pushed myself right?
So first let me rewind a bit and tell you a bit about the studio, I went to the one in Holborn and when I walked in I was immediately impressed by the sleek studio. The staff on reception were so friendly and helpful providing you with special cycle shoes and showing you where everything was. As it was a nike event we all got to wear a #weownthenight t-shirt which we then got to keep…..which is great hello free t-shirt. The studio itself was dark with candles near the instructors bike (not to near to cause a fire hazard don’t panic) which gave it a other wordly feel, you knew once you entered that studio things were going to get serious.
And things did get pretty serious, I have never cycled so fast and for so long in my life this was spinning on steroids! The instructor Shara was so fun shouting out motivating instructions from the front and the music…don’t get me started on the music such epic tunes- there is no other way to describe them I am sorry but they were busting out all sorts of old school classics “shawty get low low low low”……yes thats right I told you tunes! I think due to Shara’s enthusiasm and the amazing music the class flew by and before I knew it it was over!
Once we finished the class we all were treated to a variety of smoothies and healthy protein filled snacks, I went for a chocolate brownie which was hemp milk, almond butter, banana, cacao nibs, powder, agave and protein. It was delicious…..I felt like I was indulging in a chocolate milkshake however this was a protein filled dairy free bundle of bliss!
So in conclusion, boom cycle successfully altered my slightly negative view on spinning. I mean I wouldn’t advise going unless you are ready to work your arse off because it is hard work and you will sweat…..a lot. I got some weird looks walking back trust me! The studio is slick, the instructors and guys who work there are lovely and not to mention they do great post workout refreshments!
