Sleek Technique

Have you ever not gone to the gym because it was raining, maybe a bit grey, and you just couldn’t face leaving the comfort of your own home? I know I have, there has been many occasions when it’s taken a lot of effort to leave the house to go and exercise, especially when its raining or the weather is a bit glum.

No need to worry, Sleek Technique is the answer to these problems! We now live in a world where you can workout at home using your laptop, and that is exactly what Sleek Technique does so obviously The Nutritionista had to try it as such an important element of The Nutritionista is to review and try new workouts and exercise classes. Sleek technique is a ballet style workout which can be done in your living room, genius I know! Sleek Technique was set up by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s professional ballerina and fitness coach Victoria Marr and elite West End dancer Flik Swan, who both can I add have the most toned, lean bodies I have seen. The exercise itself combines ballet technique, cardio and conditioning exercises to form a well rounded workout that creates a lean dancers body.

These workouts can be done live online or you can just download them to your computer/laptop. I chose to do a live class for The Nutritionista as I was interested to see how the concept of a live ballet workout in my living room would work. Firstly sleek technique send you a link via email and 10 mins before the class you click on it and it takes you to the live class (almost like a webcam/live conference call). So once I had set up my laptop and clicked on the link I was through to the class and to my instructor Kristen. She helped me set my laptop at the right level so she could see my whole body, which was important so she could give me feedback on my posture and correct me if I went wrong.

The workout itself used a combination of classic ballet moves- first position, plies, tendus. These positions were used in a way to workout your body almost in a gym class style ( in case you had images of me twirling around my living room pretending I was in swan lake). The class incorporated core and arm workouts as well so it did feel like every different part of my body was being targeted. The class I did was only half an hour ballet bootcamp, I feel like next time I could push myself to do a longer class as there are so many options available.

All in all, the workout was very good. I felt like my muscles were worked and the instructor showed all the movements very clearly and gave good critique at the end of the class. This workout is ideal for those of you who travel a lot, or want to workout at home or are a bit tight on time. The fact that I was able to do this all from my living room made the whole experience even better……The Nutritonista thinks that sleek technique is a winning concept.
