Holiday blues….the awful feeling of impending doom when you arrive back in the UK and the sky is cloudy and the prospect of a full inbox and upcoming deadlines awaits. I love nothing more than travelling and feeling the sun on my skin and embracing my inner beach bum. Yet I often struggle with facing reality when I return, the holiday bubble is an amazing one yet the fact it doesn’t last forever often makes the experience more special.

I used to spend my life living for holidays, always planning my next trip. But then I realised that its not about wishing your life away planning for the next trip its about making the most of the special moments in beautiful places. But then also embracing real life when you get home and treasuring the memories you made. Simpler said than done though right so here are a few tips for making those post holiday blues a little easier.
- Keep yourself busy- I always make sure I book lots in for when I return so I am so busy that I can’t get any holiday blues. Its also nice to come back and be straight back to work with a clear head and mind.
- Do an online food shop for when you come back- this for me is key, the amount of times I have come back home to empty cupboards and been so exhausted from travelling I end up ordering something in (which I never do) or running to the corner shop and grabbing a sugary snack. So I now always plan to have my food delivered within a few hours of me being home.
- Ohh and another handy tip is to make sure there is something tasty in the freezer so even if you get your food shop delivered but you are to tired to cook there is something you can defrost. All sounds logical but trust me it makes a difference.
- Plan to see friends or family- surrounding yourself with your favourite people is a sure fire way of beating any blues. Nothing beats a cup of tea (or wine) on the sofa with your best friends going through your holiday pictures to make you feel glad you are home.
- Treasure the memories and appreciate how lucky you are. Yes its sad its over, but at least you had the experience :)
- Go to your favourite spot – it can be easy to spend life wanting to explore beautiful new places. But I often forget that where I live is beautiful too, sometimes its nice to remind myself of that. Go to your favourite park, street, cafe any spots which you love and take it in. Yes exploring is amazing but there is no place like home.
