Why 25 is The Year I am Going to Care Less

travel blogger

25 ey, sounds so grown up…which is laughable as I would say I am not very good at this adulting business. Examples of this being, ignoring and not opening any letters I get. Like ever….please tell me I am not the only one who does this?! I am rubbish at anything I don’t understand you know like taxes and doing my finances. In fact my accountant will often email me then email me again like ‘Natalie actually open this email’. Hahaha no thanks I’d rather bury my head in the sand than answer you mr accountant man.

That all said I am quite excited about turning 25, seems like a good age. Not sure why but I have a good gut feeling about turning 25. The beginning of this year was a bit of a whirlwind, amongst many things I lost my passport just as I was about to fly to South Africa (example of me being a rubbish adult) nearly had a breakdown on a number of occasions, and many other things that all seemed to pile up. But you know what those things all taught me a huge amount and escaping to South Africa made me contemplate life a lot. I came back with a different perspective on life, weird how a week can do that to you. Sometimes getting away from your everyday and normal routine can make you stop and think a bit.

So as the title suggest this post is going to be about how I am caring less, strange right but if there is anything the last few months have taught me is to do exactly that.

So caring less, now that might sound strange but I have always been one of those people that feels deeply. I care so much about things whether it be people, friendships, relationships, even places. I don’t ever half ass things I always invest myself fully which can be an amazing thing. I am an extreme person I can be super positive, outrageously happy, sociable and outgoing, I love hard, my friendship and family means the world to me and if you are in my circle I will fight for you until the end.

But this extreme feeling also means that when things go wrong it effects me hugely. I have always let myself get very stressed and worried about things, I overthink, panic, stress out which often leads me to not sleep and I know this will ultimately make me ill or ‘burn out’. You can worry yourself to an early grave they said. So although my extreme personality is often my best feature I have also learnt I need to control this, be more picky with what and who you invest in. This has to happen purely for a self protection thing.

So as of a few weeks ago I decided to care less about things that aren’t really important. Like a deadline, something goes wrong at work, or someone lets me down or is rude for example…this used to stress me out loads BUT now with my new mindset I step back evaluate, realise no one is going to die and breathe. It feels so much better this whole caring less.

I still have so much emotion and caring in me but I have just learnt that need to be pickier in what I invest this emotion in.

Here’s to caring less people and heres to an exciting 25th year.
